Has anyone else heard of someone being diagnosed with IgA nephropathy and LPHS, I thought the IgA was a part of LPHS but my consultant says I have both and they are different conditions as when I had my byopsi it showed scaring in the kidney and the usual signs of LPHSas well as IgA deposits and usual signs of IgA so I am totally confussed now as he seems to think they are seperate, and more common in men, I know Im not very lady like but even I think this is unfair lol. If anyone else can give me some info I would be very gratefull. Thanks

Clair,

I was diagnosed as having a variant of IGA nephropathy called C3 nephropathy.  I was also diagnosed with LPHS.  I was told that a few people with IGAN develop LPHS.  They are seperate diseases.     My doctor told me that IGAN can cause pain/hematuria  whenever I have an upper respiratory illness or a stomach virus.   LPHS causes pain 24/7.   The pain is always worse when I am sick.  It's like a double whammy.

Patrick

I'm afraid Patrick is right Clair,
IGA whilst being similar to LPHS, is a separate condition and is more problematic and if possible try and get a separate diagnosis.
This is not uncommon as several members also have Lupus, Fibromyalgia and Diabetes as well as LPHS.
Sorry if this is not good news.

John

Hi Everyone,

I was never actually told that I had IgA but, I was told that I did have  scarring, after my biopsy, and that I would most likely end up with renal failure, but thankfully when I was an old lady, and that most old people pass away due to organ failure etc.

Many of the symptoms etc, of IgA, I do have and I now believe that this was the initial problem. My GP also believes that my LPHS is auto-immune related and I have auto-immne disease in my family.

Hope everyone is coping,

Helen

This is interesting.  I have never heard of C3 nephropathy.  Can you explain what it is.  My biopsy showed heavy deposits of C3.

Thanks, Kim

My biopsy showed that I had one glomeruli that was totally sclerosed and another that was scarred. The findings of my report suggest IgA positivity and c3 and thin basement membrane. I wish I new what all this meant.
