Does anyone have personal experience of renal denervation? Have any of you had a lying & standing IVU& found that your kidneys move too much? There is research to show that hypermobile kidneys can lead on to LPHS & that if the former is prevented then the latter won't occur. This would mean that early diagnosis is really important but as many of us know it can take years & by then the kidneys have often fixed themselves in place. Fascinating!Alison
Yes, I had the renal denervation at the time of my autotransplant. I have had standing IVPs (in the USA they are called IntraVenous Pyelgrams) and no movement was noted. All mye standing IVPs were done in the late 1970s and early 1980s and I was diagnosed with LPHS in 1989, though developed symptoms in 1985. Standing IVPs are no longer done in the USA.

No, I got no relief from the get-go. When I had the auto it was considered the treatment of choice. Consequently, when it didn't work, I was thrown back into the whole mess of I was exaggerating the pain, I was drug-seeking, etc.. I don't think it worked because the procedure only cut the nerves to the kidney. As my kidney swells with blockage from blood clots, etc.., the surrounding area is affected. It's been 17 years since I had the auto and my pain level is every bit of what it was before the surgery. My left kidney, the one that had the auto, is now failing. I'll never know if damage from the surgery caused the problem I face today or if it is the natural progression of LPHS. I developed LPHS in my right kidney within about 6 years of the left. As of now, there is no sign of failure in that kidney, but time will tell.
It would seem a simple process of adding a standing film to an IVP/IVU to the more traditional lying films. I wonder why doctors don't do it anymore? It's not that it was stopped in one country, but world-wide.

Dear Kim,
Lying & standing IVP's have been re-started here in England. I had mine done at the Royal free hospital in London. Mine was the first for 27 years but more have been done since & my surgeon tells me that 4 more Nephropexies have been successfully done! Have emailed you as I couldn't remember my password.
