I have to mention this again as it is dawning on me how many people are being mis-diagnosed & missing the point at which they can be cured.I would suggest that anyone who has been told that they have LPHS should check that they have had an X ray of the kidney with intravenous dye whilst lying down & then standing up straight afterwards whilst another Xray is taken. Movement is then measured by located bony structures & noting if the kidneys move or not. If they do move this can cause the excruciating pain called renal colic (loin pain, flank pain, groin pain, on the floor type pain). There is research to show that if these mobile kidneys are then stitched in place no further damage will be done. If left inflammation will in time make the kidney stick itself in place but by then LPHS may have developed. The impact of this is enormous as i know that many people have loin pain & are told that there are no stones so therefore the pain is not real (yep, we've all been there!).Dr. Ahmed Ghanem is happy for his email address to be given to anyone interested in hearing more so please email mealison.banister@ntlworld.com& I will forward his details.Hopefully my kidneys have been saved in time. Have now had both kidneys firmly fixed in place & the nerves ofone side stripped away (beautifully - so I am told by Dr Ahmed who came to watch my surgery). In Saudi they don't have pain clinics so he wanted to pursue the cause of this agonising pain.I have put an article in the North West region Kidney Patients' Association newsletter emailnwrkpa@ntlworld.com& had a powerpoint presentation presented on my behalfat their annual conference. So 400+ more people know about this &more urologists & nephrologists too.Best wishes to you all.Alison
