I just wanted to get back on this site after a very long absence, to tell my story and hopefully give some reassurance and hope to all of you suffering.I was diagnosed with LPHS after all the usual tests that prove inconclusive, by Southampton Hospital in 2002. After beingreferred to the Pain Team and starting on the more and more pain killers, I began looking for answers elsewhere and that is how I discovered this web site. One name that cropped up again and again was a Mr Glass in London, so I contacted his private practice and arranged an appointment within a week. The moment my husband and I met with him he gave us hope and for once I didn't feel like a freak. It was agreed that I would be treated at Guys and over the past 3 years and as my LPHS worsened and slowely drove me to the edge of my sanity I was given support from a fantastic team made up of, the urology consultant, pain consultant, and a psychiatrist. Having all agreed that I wasn't mad but that my chronic pain was now causingsomedepression, hospital stays gettingmore frequent, morphine levels getting higher, and just thetotal effect that the LPHS was having on my life dictacted some drastic action. On the 5th of July this year I had an auto-transplant at Guy's, performed by Mr Koffman. I have never really bought in to the whole idea of miracles but from almost the moment I came round I have felt like a different person. yes the pain has gone but it is more than that, it feels as if they have removed my gremlin and given me my fight for life back.I am now 4 weeks post op, and begining to feel physically better now and just looking forward to getting on with my life LPHS sympton free. I know that there are no guarentees and there may be issues to face in the future, but for now Iam making the most of all thatis good.I would love to hear from others that have had auto-transplant, as there a few questions I have and I am sure they could help me,.THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE .......................................................................................................

I am really pleased to hear that you have come through the Auto with no complicatons to date Caroline and I hope it stays that way for a long time.
Don't rush things for a while, besides not feeling like it, you need to pace yourself and gradually build up to things and that includes work.
Move at your pace, not theirs.
Having been through it with Chris, although there are always financial pressures on a family are you getting all the Social Benefit Support you are entitled to?
Check out this with Citizens Advice.

Thats only a couple of things that come to mind at present.

Wishing you well
John

Hi John, hope all is well with you and yours.  Thanks for replying to my posting and giving me some pointers around my recovery from the op.

I am having some issues around my MST reduction, have managed to go from 100mg a day to 60 on my own and only the odd dihydocodiene during the day, but am now struggling a bit and getting physical withdrawal symptoms, (not nice) but am getting very little support/empathy from the medical proffesion.  I am also having to balance the post op discomfort with the reduction and it is a bit head busting.  Have left message for consultant at Guys but not got back to me yet, so I shall let you know.

I have not really been told what I can do and when, I know that I am fairly impatient but do not want to undo the good work, this is my last chance, so can you tell me, should  I be hoovering and supermarket shopping or am I going too fast, I am 4 weeks post op and have just started driving again too.  Sorry I know you are not a doctor but you and Chris have been through it.

Anyway thanks again and hope to be able to keep up the good progress reports.

Hi Caroline,

As I said before, go at your own pace.
If you think you can do it, try it and if it is too much don't do it for a while.

I wouldn't get involved with lifting for a while because of the internal stitches. I think we all sympathise with the withdrawl bit. It can be hell.

John
