I hope everyone is 'bearing up'.I am suffering from severe tiredness at the moment. I first felt this last August when I was admiited yet again into hospital with severe loin pain. No one seemed to be interested when I said how tired I feel and how unusual this was for me. Since then it hasn't been so bad until the past 2 weeks. I was advised by an anaesthetist ( at my hospital's pain clinic ) to start taking Amitriptylin. I am currently on 20mg a night. I started this drug 3 weeks ago. I now have such an erratic sleep pattern. Worse than ever before. I'd be very interested to hear from anyone who is experiencing problems with sleep or effects from this drug. I am tempted to stop taking the Amitriptylin.Emma

HI Emma,

I'm sorry to hear about your insommnia.  Amitriptylin is an antidepressant and as such can cause sleep problems.  It's something you should discuss with your doctor if you haven't already.  As for feeling tired. I go through spells of severe exhaustion where all I think about is when I'll be able to lay down.  It can be a huge problem and I only wish I knew how to tell you to get through it.  I lnow I haven't written much but I wanted to let you know you're not alone.

Kim

Hi Emma,
The tiredness is a by product of the Amitriptylene.
DO NOT HOWEVER TAKE YOURSELF OFF THIS MEDICATION,, it could have side effects and has to be stepped down in dosage.
My wife Chris has the same problem and she is permanently tired because of the medication.
